Our Gyotaku platters are freezer-proof and dishwasher-safe. They can go directly from the freezer to the oven (up to 250° C / 500° F). Made in Portugal, they are lead free and safe for all food use. They make a beautiful presentation, as well as unique and wonderful gifts.
"Gyotaku" (ghi-o-TA-koo) is the Japanese art of hand-rubbed fish prints on fine rice paper. (Gyo means fish; Taku means rubbing.) The art originated in the early 1800s as a way of preserving records of each fisherman's catch.
Florida artist Gregory Aragon holds a Captain's license and makes his living as master of a deep-water fishing vessel. He became fascinated by Gyotaku, studied and mastered the art, and has been making Gyotaku prints for more than two decades. His work is displayed in galleries and private collections in the United States, France, and England.
